What would you say if you were presented with an opportunity to be the best you that you've ever been? What if all you had to do is say "YES!" and it was a done deal? Your past actions wouldn't matter because you now would have a clean slate to start all over and get it right... would you take me up on my offer?
This summer, I've found the term progress constantly on my lips. One major reason being I. Dislike. Stagnancy. In anything.. in my walk with Christ, my academic knowledge & even down to the growth of my edges lol. It's just never made sense to me to remain in the same spot. But, there I was not making the appropriate moves to avoid becoming a sitting duck.
I found myself in a hole a lot of people, young & old, often find themselves in. Church-Going, Semi-Active, I-"Love"-Jesus & Jesus-Loves-Me, Turn-Up On Saturday-Glory Hallelujah on Sunday, I Don't Really Hear From God but I Feel Like I Should, Gospel Music is My Devotion, I Only Open My Bible on Sunday's type of Christian and hear me well, IT SUCKED. Ever felt like you should be doing more but... you just seem not to? Paul felt that way too [Romans 7:15-20].
(15) "I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead I do what I hate. (19) I want to do what is good but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway."
So one day, I just decided... enough was enough. My final straw was to give up drinking (that on it's own is a lengthy testimony that's long overdue & soon to come) and I knew it was time to do better. That's where grace and mercy came in. Simply put, Grace, receiving what one doesn't deserve, and Mercy, not receiving what one deserves, kept me. Both cost me the lovely price of $Free.00. At that moment, I had all I needed to do better, be better, learn, grow, and progress.
You Do Too.
You owe it to yourself to not remain where you are – Academically, Emotionally, Financially, Spiritually, and any other "-ally" you can think of. If you're like Paul & I, understand that Grace and Mercy are waiting for you; Take the offer. When the thought of doing what's right (whatever that may mean for you) comes to mind and you can't seem to take steps towards it, head back to product manual of the Bible and have a chit chat with the real Desiigner.
Hebrews 4:16 - "Then let us approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
